It first occurred to me that we might be in for a frame bag renaissance a couple seasons ago when Mansur Gavriel started making a grasp with a frame closure as its central design feature. A top-handled frame day bag followed the next season (and is recently available in stores), and in the past, the brand has shown prescient in predicting the easy structures that style-forward women will want to carry. If Céline‘s resounding endorsement of retro-modern frame bags on its spring 2017 runway is any indication, we’re about to see a lot of simple, structured 1950s throwbacks.
Céline, of course, is another brand that’s adept at seeing things before many people see them. bucket bags have transitioned from being a bag trend to something of a modern wardrobe staple, and it feels like saddle bags, which were the trend that followed them up, are on that same path. the market is going to need a follow-up soon, but we’ll have to wait a season or so to see if everyone else picks up on the frame bag cues. As it is, this minimalist version is lovely. check out all its versions, plus Céline’s other runway bags, below.
