Behind the Bag: Nikki

I get this question all the time, at events especially: What’s the inspiration?

I think that being a designer who does events vs. just being sold in stores, woman are naturally curious. The cool part is they actually get to speak to me directly, not a brand rep. Well maybe some day LOL

Anyway, I made a decision to start a series called Behind the Bag, kinda like behind the music (ps: my other love!) This way you get to hear about and possible meet the women behind the inspiration. but before I go there, I want to remind you that I am not a fashion major, so creating handbags comes from the heart and believe it or not math.

Okay, I know that sounds funny, but when I started making bags I realized they were generally geometric shapes. (My daddy always wanted me to get a occupation that used my math smarts.) So I just made basic squares and rectangle shaped bags with a handle. It was easy for me to conceptualize how to cut and sew this. So in my one bedroom apartment, I cut and sewed bags in these shapes.

It wasn’t until lots of years later and a lot of sewing that my creating skills graduated, of course it’s still all about math
